Do you prefer digital cameras or those that require film?
Personally, I like my camera with it's film. I prefer it for several reason. Firstly, I like the surprise of how the pictures turned out and on some occasions what they were like. Secondly, I like to be able to physically hold my photos and put them in albums. Thirdly, it's rather easy to delete an embarrassing photo but once you've got the negative your friend's can hate you forever! And lastly, there isn't any lag and it's less likely to blur. I think I'd switch to digital once there's a camera that takes the picture straight away with minimum bluring, and is affordable.

I used to be a film-only camera owner until this past summer. After my daughter's grade 8 graduation, when I got the photos back from the developer, I was very disappointed in the way they turned out. I think the quality of the film camera just can't compare with the digital. I bought a digital for under $200. I can delete the pictures I don't like, I can print the pictures I really want to show off by putting them in a picture frame. I do like photo albums but to be honest with you, I have gotten so far behind in putting my photos in albums I find I would rather not have them at all. My box of photos go back to 2002. I have always put photos in albums and I have just gotten so lax about it. With the digital and my photo printer, I know I am only going to print the pictures I reallly like because I don't want to waste the ink. I still have my film camera and, in fact, it still has film in it. It's probably been in there for awhile so who knows what pictures are on it? [patgalca]
I like film cameras, and I'm actually taking a black & white film photography course right now. However digital ends up being far cheaper in the end. Even when I print the photos myself, film and photo paper is very expensive, and I don't like wasting crap photos on it. Plus photo places often mess up the prints, or you get doubles of dumb photos that end up not coming out. At least digital lets you see and edit your pictures before you print them, and send to your friends and family. [inkaholic]
I love my digital camera, I know what you mean by having the actual photos as i have always printed my own pictures out but after seeing a friends pictures that i thought were from a film camera I am going to do things differently, I will take my photos, fix them up the best i can and then put the ones I really like onto a memory stick and take them to the photo shop to have them printed out.. I like both. I use my digital for pictures that I want to put online and film for pictures that I want to have printed out. I know I can print pictures using my digital but I just don't like to do that. [sassygirlanne007]

Iactually prefer the digital camera because I like being able to view the photo and seeing how it is going to turn out right then and there so if it is not a good one I can delete and try again. I also like that I don't have to pay processing fees to be able to look at them or have them I can upload them to all my friends and family without hassle but if I used film I couldn't do that unless I used a scanner to scan them. I like that I can have multiple copies of them without having to pay for them and I like being able to add things to them to make them special. You can physically hold them just have to prin them off and you can use photo paper which is great because it looks and feels like real photos you get processed at the store. The only thing I don't like about a digital is that they eat away at a battery way faster then a normal 110 or 35 mm camera. ANd yes you tend to have to stand still or be still for some cameras but I have seen some advertised that actually takes a picture of a hummingbird without blurring but it probably cost a good price. I always dream to have my own digital camera. For the time being I am looking forward to have the olympus digital camera. I prefer digital camera rather than the film one. For me digital camera is suit for me as I don't really like a surprise. I want to make sure that the image which I have shot will make me satisfied. [qouniq]
if i must make an option, i choose a digital camara.i think that will spare much money when used,and i can develop my photoes more beautiful or properer for me on the computer.and then there are some strongpoints that a film camare doesnot have,such as more portable and more fashionable.maybe that is just preferential.after all,i have no camara till now. I like digital. A good picture is easier to get with digital. Also with mt daughter, I know right away if she moved. Or if it's blurry,you can try again for a good photo before she is out of the mood.With family 1300 miles away we share photos all the time digital is a faster way to see those we love. [ersmommy1]
I prefer digital, it's more efficient and you could take lots of pictures anytime anywhere without having to prepare backups of film. It's easy to put in the computer therefore easy to photoshoped =P [ucancallmedissy]

DIGITAL!!! Without a doubt. Film is unrelaiable, expensive, time consuming. DIGITAL is easy, simply, fairly cheap and the quality of pictures is just so much better. Digital all the way. [the_police]
I am a person who loves to be taken pictures and be picture taken.Digital camera is one of the best things for me that the technology can offer...I go carzy with sony cybershots and canon digital camera...Please dont get me wrong my fellow members...I'm only telling you about my opinion and i respect other's opinions regarding this discussion....Picture taking is the first established upon the latter generation and being a snap-happy person,it's not that you feel ugly then you are not good in camera...Let's take advantage what the digicams can offer...Me,my friends and my classmates are with me who loves to play the candid and posed shots in the digicam.It is affordable, enjoyable, and once you've developed those happy moments in the picture papers,you will be amazed and you will remembered that beautiful scenarious that has past in your life.... I will choose digital film. It is less cost in production and easy to produce. I like digital because I can edit my picture in many ways and I can store the picture in my computer. [aries_0325]
i'll go for the digital verion of course. it has better capability than filmed camera. there's no argument on that subject. Digital copies has double purpose when displaying it for example -- you can use it online and then you also can print it for your albums.. though digital cameras are expensive than the other but it's worthy anyway. Right you are correct. I too was habituated to films onlymbut these days as there is a good advanced technology and we find films being sold very rarely and the rpocessors are also vanishing it has become difficult to continue with films. And labowners are also dislinking when we take films for processing.they are also not giving quaLITY WORKS. [gyaneshwarrao]
I prefer my digital camera, I like that I can see how the picture turned out and with a high megapixel they really do have nicer clarity than a film camera. I was also really bad about taking film in to get developed, so now I either print out the ones I like myself, or put them on disc and take them in to have them printed for me. I also like that I can email my digital photos to friends and family and I don't have to have a bunch of copies made. [dlkuku]
I am torn between the two. They both have their pros and cons. I miss all the variables that could go wrong with film camera. I miss the days of adding new photos to the albums. I do not miss the 'blackmail' photos, ha ha. If they could invent something more specific to my needs, that would be a real leap in technology. LOL [rakinitin]
Haha i remember taking pics using our old film camera and how the pics would sometimes end up blurry. What I like about film cameras is the excitement of never knowing how your picture came out and it'll only be at the end when you'll see your bloopers! haha. But I got to say that I love digital cameras better because of the functionality, features and convenience. You can do loads now with your camera and their quality is way better. And you don't need to worry about your film being exposed or what. Just make sure you don't delete your pics accidentally my friend! haha! Well both cameras are fine with me. Digital, by far. The pictures are far superior, and when you factor in the cost of film and processing, the cost of taking the the film to the processor and returning to pick it up ... for each roll, it's actually cheaper. Once you get past the initial cost of the camera (I have an Olympus), you should actually be on your way to saving money. [rjscott]
Well, normal film cameras are nice, but there are so many advantages if you get a good SLR Digital camera. 1) You can still use lenses 2) Pictures, in some cases, can look even better 3) More accurate - See it before you take it, delete if you mess up 4) No need for loads of film, which can get expensive, and messy! Of course, you can get both film and digital on computers, but with film, you have in addition, the negatives. I don't care about that though. One huge advantage I can see with film though, is the negatives never lie, while digital can always be altered, so you have better proof :P But for photography, I've only used Film. I wish I had an expensive digital though. I'll get one once I'm rich :P If you are referring to cheap cameras used for like graduation pictures, then I'd have to say, I'd go with digital. It's not much more expensive, and they hold much more without the mess. Memory cards are way smaller, and if you're afraid of losing them, you can buy a case. Of course, for travel, if you're afraid you'll lose it, that's where disposable cameras come in handy :D -Chris [Yuripro84]
I love my digital camera. Itz easy and simple to handle. You can transfer all the pictures to you computer and print them whenever you want if you had a printer. The cameras available these days are anti-blurr though they do cost a bit. [Buttercup26]
I prefer digital to film becoz of a couple of reasons, firstly because of its ability to show the picture taken instantly and the abilty of it to be erased its blurry and the picture can be retaken. Secondly, this can be saved in a pc or cd which is much easier than keeping the negatives. Digital all the way [buster14]

I prefer the digital camera. Why? because of the convenience. In the past, I had difficult times of setting up the film on camera and worst the film turn out to be "exposed". Meaning Im taking shots not knowing that I won't be able to get any pictures taken =( [gunner29]
I am using Canon S2 IS and its end results is very impressive. Minimum blurring especially on day time and it can snap a picture once every .5 seconds...so its very good for those sporting event. You can still put your pictures in an album physically, you just pick what you want and have it develop, less expensive because you dont need to buy a film. You can also take more pictures and more nice pictures because you don't have to worry of running out of film. A 1gb of sd card which cost around $10 can take from 500 very high quality shots to 2,000 good shots. I guess the pros and cons between digital and film is about 8 is to 2. [zxtzxt]
Until 2004 I had a camera using a film. I love to travel and had many films with me on my trip around the world. Because I didn't know what my photos were like I developed all of the them. Especially with the wildlife photos there were many mistakes. I kept the photos with me and sent the negatives home in case I lost the photos. I was traveling for just over a year and the photos grew in number and were heavy to carry around. It was blissful in Australia with the cheap developing costs and even better in Singapore with the good prices on film, especially twelve at a time. When I got home I put all the better standard photos in albums. Then I got a digital camera and had instead of film memory cards. I like seeing the photo I have just taken and deleting it if it is not good enough. Then I can have another go and not waste photos. I can get 850 photos on my larger storage memory card and 200 on the smaller storage memory cards. I prefer the smaller storage memory cars because the down loading time when preparing to print is quicker. I can get my photos developed in a photography shop or on my own printer at home. It is convenient to take a photo then print it when I get home. If I have lots of photos it is cheaper to have them developed in a photography shop. I was given a digital picture frame for Christmas and it is better than any photo album. So my favorite camera is a digital one. [maximax8]
I certainly like digital camera.The most important reason is for convenience. You can delete a photo that you don't satisfy with,and you can share your photos with friends much easier. I can physically hold my photos and put them in albums,too,just get them printed. [katmaier]

I love my film camera in fact I dont intend to buy a digital if I can help it. My pictures are excelent it depends a lot on the camera and the film I only use kodak 400. Once I got agfa 200 and I had to take them back and got full refund plus the price that I payed for my photos they were below bad. As we are probably going to Europe I will most likely buy a digital camera so I can take lots of pictures but I will give it to my in laws when we live so they can they photos later. [violeta_va]

Hello, isn't it interesting that sometimes we find something exactly what we are looking for ? I was thinking of starting a similar discussion . Then,I saw your discussion and instead decided to respond to this discussion . Here are a few things I have to share on this Topic : 1)With a digital Camera, one can view a Full Frame and then take Picture. If the Picture is not good,one can take another one with slightly different Position . So ,we can be satisfied that we removed a bad Picture.We also view what we have to click with a Camera with Film ;but we cannot remove it (cutting the negative is one way ;but The Pic goes waste then ) . Digital Camera scores here ____________________________ 2)We can upload Pictures to Mails as Attachements or to sites such as Flickr etc for others to view. Or just to our own PC and we can also save on Print . This is not available on Film cameras. 3)The biggest disadvantage of Digital Cameras is the 2-3 seconds time interval between the time of clicking the Shoot button and the time the Picture is actually taken . Companies like Sony,Canon,Olympus are working on Digicams which do not have this problem . However,they are still nowhere in site . There is an Image Stabilization Mode in my Olympus FE-150X Digicam ; yet that also does not solve the problem . Overall;Digital Cameras are more suited to today's busy world .Yet when it comes to Picture Quality and Pictures that look quite brillaint to eyes, Older Cameras with Films score.
